Thomas Skomski: No Better Place, February 4th-27th

Thomas Skomski: No Better Place, Exhibition at Bentley Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona

Exhibition at Bentley Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona In collaboration with Pascal de Sarthe Fine Art

We are pleased to announce: "No Better Place" featuring the work of Chicago based artist, Thomas Skomski. Born in Illinois in 1948, he received his M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1986. Thomas Skomski has been included in numerous national and international exhibitions, including: Seibu, Tokyo, Japan; Seoul Metropolitan Museum of Art, Korea; Donald Young Gallery, Chicago, and the Basel Art Fair, Switzerland among others.

This is Thomas Skomski’s first exhibition since he had a stroke 8 years ago. Below are his comments on this exhibition:

“The work in this exhibit is all about a place.

The place, is where I live, a small farm in central Illinois.

At my mother’s funeral several people commented to me:

“She’s in a better place”.

There is no better place.

Living close to nature brings me to the only place,

the place where impermanence reigns, in more undomesticated ways.

When the photograph stops and reveals motion in water it functions like a dead seed: something unprotected appears.

These ‘hidden movers’ are what I try to access.”

Thomas Skomski
