The town on the Someșul Mic river is preparing to become ahain the international capital of the movie between the 28th of March the 6th of June when the 9th edition of the Transilvania International Film Festival will take place here. According to the tradition this years festival will also spoil the public with sensational productions, interesting events, an impressive number of important guests, parties and other surprises.

The opening of the festival will take place in the Piața Unirii square in Cluj-Napoca and will be marked by the projection of Fatih Akins most recent production Soul Kitchen, an exceptional comedy rewarded with the jurys special price within the 2009 Venice film festival. The movie tells the story of Zinos, the owner of a restaurant, whose adventures and problems will put a smile on the viewers faces for nearly 100 minutes.

Winner of two Oscars for Best adapted screenplay and Best supporting actrice and owner of another 65 awards among which the Biggest Award of the Sundance film festival, the movie Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire directed by Lee Daniels, is obviously, one of the most awaited films of TIFF. The movie is an emotional story about the life of Claireece Precious Jones, an iliterate teenager, with various problems, who tries to radically change her life after all the doors have been shut in front of her.

Another important moment of this years edition will be the screening of the controversial Videocracy, directed by Erik Gandini and included within the documentaries program presented by HBO Romania. Videocracy will be the title which will give the guests politicians, movie specialists and the public the chance to debate about Film and Politics. The documentary, a Swedish production, presents in an original and challenging way the impact of certain media channels, owned by Silvio Berlusconi, on the Italian population over the past 30 years.

The list of movies presented in the TIFF 2010 continues with hit titles such as: Submarino, directed by Thomas Vinterberg, the drama Hadewijch, made by the French director Bruno Dumont, Io sono l'amore, a tragic and over welming love story directed by Luca Guadagnino and having Tilda Swinton in the leading role, How I Ended this Summer, directed by Aleksei Popogrebsky, Mother made by the Korean director Joon-ho Bong and Revolucion, a collection of short films about the Mexican revolution 100 years ago, as it is seen nowadays by the young movie makers. Among the directors of this short films, the public will see movies made by the actors Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna. The public will also have the opportunity to see J'ai tue ma mere, the aclaimed debut of an only 19 years old director - Xavier Dolan.
It is necessary to mention that this year more than 400 movies applied for the competitions selection, the jurys task being extremelly difficult considering that only 12 movies will finally enter the contest.
