Between East and West Folk Art Treasures of Romania
Mingei International Museum, San Diego
The richness of Romanias related arts costumes, textiles, architecture, works in wood, pottery and other objects of daily and ceremonial use derives energy from the confluence of East and West. Although its present day borders were drawn during the twentieth century, the region has been inhabited by many great civilizations, among them the Roman, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires. Romanians, Hungarians, Saxon Germans, Armenians, Jews and Roma are all part of the rich cultural heritage of this land, adding variety and dimension to the art found there.

REWRITING THE SPACE:
Dorit Margreiter/Josef Hoffmann
The Pavilion project was created by Dorit Margreiter for the exhibition in the Austrian Pavilion at the 2009 Venice Biennale as an original deconstruction of the ideal exhibition hall, designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1934. The exhibition in Brtnice constitutes a specific attempt to rewrite the 2009 constellation while developing, on the basis of a confrontation of contemporary artist Dorit Margreiter's work with original sketches of Josef Hoffmann, a loop in time and meaning, interlacing the prototype with postproduction.

Masterpieces from the Fondation Beyeler
Over the past 50 years in parallel to their activities as successful gallerists, the couple Hildy and Ernst Beyeler have also compiled a fine selection of international artworks of Classical Modernism. In 1982, the collection was converted into the Beyeler Foundation for which the star architect Renzo Piano realised a spectacular building in Berower Park in Riehen near Basel. The museum was opened to the public in 1997 and has since then become a major attraction in a Swiss museum landscape replete with important collections. It has received great acclaim from its visitors who revel in the high quality of masterpieces as well as the unique presentation in a generously laid out and light-filled architecture.

FRITZ BORNSTÜCK - MY LOVE FOR YOU IS LIKE A JAPANESE CAR
Materials and ideas from Bornstücks immediate surroundings are his inspiration along with his beloved trash also known astrashures. The paintings consist of several layers of paint which creates a unique depth and tactility. The sculptures consist of cans, old card board boxes, fried plastic dolls, and the green milk boxes which you can find in supermarkets. Together with the paintings they create a special narrative. Bornstück splits his narratives up in order to spread the story onto more paintings. You can either follow it around the gallery space or create your own story.

ASTRID KRUSE JENSEN - BETWEEN THE REAL AND THE IMAGINARY
Astrid Kruse Jensens photographs are conceived through the encounter between dark and light in the twilight zone between the illuminated and the hidden, between the real and the imaginary. They are taken at dusk and at night because she mostly uses the ambient light sources on locations. The intensity of the light and the details of the darkness are the product of a long exposure. Darkness assumes both fullness and softness, allowing a wealth of visual impressions to take shape.
