In the streets of Central Asian oasis towns, a mans clothing defined his status in society and proclaimed his wealth. In the home, the place of honor was filled with the richest ikat textiles. Ikats display Central Asian artists and weavers attention to the harmony between design, color and execution in order to create their master works.

Loןs Mailou Jones: A Life in Vibrant Color
The first major retrospective features more than 70 paintings, textiles, and sketches from the pioneering African American artists 75-year career. Jones was inspired by the social struggles that she witnessed in the U.S. as well as by her travels from Marthas Vineyard and France to Haiti and Africa. A Howard University professor, Jones imbued her work with the brilliant colors, patterns and African motifs that came to distinguish her art.
