You are reading the first newsletter which you will now regularly receive from the organizational team of the International Theatre Festival Divadelna Nitra. Due to the significant reduction of the financial contribution from the grant scheme of the Ministry of Culture, but also the weakening of other sources, we were forced for the first time in history to reduce the number of festival days from six to four. The 19th year of the biggest theatre festival and one of the most important international activities in the field of culture in Slovakia is due on the 24th to 27th September 2010.
We are saving on the scale and operating costs, but certainly not on the quality of the program Divadelna Nitra 2010 will bring fully charged four days of the top European theatre in a concentrated form of theatrical art.
The festival program will offer quality productions from renowned European artists, as well as interesting works of Slovak Theatre. Participation has been promised by: Belgian ensemble les ballets C de la B with the staging of Out of Context for Pina by choreographer Alain Platel, the Moscow Theatre School of Dramatic Art with the staging of OPUS No. 7, directed by Dmitriy Krymov, Prague La Putyka project directed by Rostislav Novák and collective of SKUTR, Piece of Dirt by Budapest´ Béla Pintér and Co. and the staging of SAMSARA DISCO by Teatr Polski Wroc³aw directed by Agniezska Olsten. From the Slovak theatres we can look forward to the performance of the Slovak National Theatre HOLLYROTH, or Robert Roth sings Jan Holly directed by Rastislav Ballek, alternative SkRAT Theatre and its Dead Souls, directed by Dušan Vicen, on project of Slávka Daubnerová M. H. L. (PAT Prievidza and Studio 12, Bratislava) and more. The details of the individual performances of the main programme, as well as the rich accompanying program is going to be listed in the future editions of the newsletter.

The new visual and the new theme of the festival out of normal! Every year we come with a new face, new ideas, and new topic. The author of the new visual DN 2010 Thomas Vicen is a graphic designer who sees the festival as an opportunity to get a man out of his/her own enclosed surroundings, so that he can look at the world from a new, different, alternative perspective. The irritant and playful idea of crossing your own shadow and the discovering of something unknown, worrying that is outside the ordinary reality this is the theme of this year's Festival Divadelna Nitra. In addition to this special offer to explore the world pass the normal, we are going to find ourselves in unusual situations too. Come with us to (our) state out of normal!
