Happy Birthday, Vasile Pop!

Born the same day the Romanian poetry’s genius was born (15^th of January), but several years later (1935), the painter from Cluj Vasile Pop added a new solo exhibition to the long series of exhibitions he has organized within the galleries and museums in Romania and abroad, this time an exhibition made to celebrate his 75^th birthday. Inspired both by the Transylvanian space and by the human nature, Vasile Pop presented to the public that came to celebrate him a series of works made  during his years of creation, but also during last year.

Creatively resisting to the multiple changes within the Romanian social, politic, economic and artistic “landscape”, the painter  Vasile Pop continues to impress due to the youth of his spirit, his power of work and the skill of mixing in his painting history and elements coming from the space of the Romanian village with the tendencies of the contemporary art.

Vasile Pop paints trying an interpretation of the human being’s state of mind. His characters are characterized by their joy of life, movement and the turning towards the inner self as it appears in his self-portraits. The artist’s spirit can be found in each character of his paintings, no matter the situation they are in – working or relaxing, dancing or singing, cuddling their kids of being models in the artist’s studio.

Greys or browns are defining for Vasile Pop’s creation giving life to his subjects with a deep respect for drawing, form and volume.

Among the favorite motifs of his works are the human figure, especially the woman, and the window and the owl, this one as a symbol of wisdom.

Having an authentic visual discourse and a complex personality Vasile Pop is a representative painter for the Transylvanian space, offering the public this exhibition at the age of 75 with the same pleasure he offered all his events and works to the public during all the years of his artistic creation.
